NOWO Garden Tour St. John's Episcopal Church, Royal Oak
Public Welcome
The North Oakland Chapter of Wild Ones is hosting this amazing looking Garden Tour.
A few years ago, St. John’s installed a hoop house tgrow fresh vegetables for the Open Hands Food Pantry, housed at the church. Because the city required screening around the hoop house, gardeners initially planted a traditional garden using plants from local nurseries.
But the garden has evolved.
Year by year, those original plantings have been replaced with native plants, and today St. John’s is home to six native plant gardens. Generous parishioners and grants from WAM and NOWO have helped make this transformation possible.
The goal is to create healthy, diverse gardens filled with a mix of native plants that provide food and habitat for pollinators, beneficial insects and birds—while also offering color, texture and beauty to inspire parishioners and visitors to bring more native plants into their own landscapes.
Come see what’s growing at St. John’s and make sure to visit the NOWO website for photos of the other tours that took place this year.
