You do not need extensive expertise on native plants to volunteer, only an enthusiasm to share them with others!
While admission to the Belle Isle Nature Center is free, a Recreation Passport is required to enter Belle Isle Park. Free, accessible parking is available directly in front of the Nature Center once on the island.
You can expect to do some or any of the following:
- Talk with customers about their garden plans and plant needs
- Talk about Wild Ones Wayne County and what we are about
- Packing and labeling purchased plants
- Help with setup & teardown of Michiganense & WOWC tables
For setup, plan to arrive 30-45 minutes prior to the sale, and same after for teardown. Otherwise, if you are interested in showing up to help out we will find a place for you to be a part of the team! Thank you!
Tabling at Bugtopia
Date: July 25, 2026
Volunteer Duties
Table hosting duties involve:
- Help with setup & teardown of table materials and activities if applicable
- Educate about Wild Ones, the Wayne County Chapter, who we are, and what we do
- Answer general questions about native plants and their importance
- If applicable, help lead table activities like bug lifecycle, kids coloring, craft, plant demo
You don’t need to have in-depth knowledge about native plants, just an enthusiasm to share about their importance!
Stewardship Saturday at UM Dearborn EIC
Date: October 17, 2026
Volunteer Duties
Stewardship Saturday events can include things like
- Habitat Restoration: Invasive species control, native seed collection, and planting.
- Trail & Infrastructure: Trail marking, maintenance, and building signs or boardwalks.
- Gardening: Tending to our pollinator and rain gardens.
Be prepared to get your hands dirty and spend a fulfilling day helping the EIC steward their beautiful space.
