The North Oakland Chapter (along with Ann Arbor and Wayne County Wild Ones), has been invited to collect seed at River Bend Gardens in the Village of Manchester, a private botanical garden dedicated to restoring an Oak Opening and preserving native Michigan species in their natural communities . (Owned by Wayne and Julie Oliver)
Dates: Three different opportunities to accommodate as many schedules as possible, and a rain-out on any given date. Also a great opportunity to mingle with the other SE Michigan Wild Ones folks. Lots to learn from one another about seed collecting.
Members could collect quite a bit in the 2 acre East Entrance Garden with no real hiking. The short hike to the prairie is about 1/2 mile for the major collecting opportunity. If members are motivated, they are welcome to explore the entire three miles of trails for a longer collection hike. Please be advised to dress for weather, insects and hiking on trails.
Suggestions: Bring - shears, gloves, paper grocery bags or collection containers, markers & masking tape, etc.
