At Wild Ones Wayne County (WOWC) we don't just dream about ‘Connecting people and native plants for a healthy planet’, we actively DO STUFF!   And that “doing” is where WOWC Programs comes in.  It takes People and Planning to Make Stuff Happen. Discussions include:

-Bi-monthly chapter meetings with a presenter or speaker
-Plant Sales
-Tabling Events
-Member-to-Member yard tours
-Stewardship Events
-Seeds to Community Program Events
-Social Events
-Private and Public garden tours

Join us on the first Monday of every month 6:00pm on Zoom where we discuss plans for Events and Activities, as well as Volunteer Opportunities.

WOWC will be joining Friends of Maybury State Park for a Stewardship Workday to clean up the area by the pond at Maybury State Park.

This is a light workday to clear woody debris from an area by the pond in preparation of a Native Meadow planting.

What to bring:

      -Work gloves and rakes

      -There is poison ivy in the area, so please wear boots, long-pants and long-sleeved shirt

      -Drinking water and snacks for yourself

We will park at the Beck Rd entrance and meet at the shelter in front of the horse stables.

(Optional)  Afterglow lunch with the Friends at a nearby restaurant following.

(Optional) If you would like to join the WOWC Nature Explorers for a hike on the trails, arrive at 9:45 at the Beck Rd entrance

Volunteer Registration is required for this Event.

2026 Ecological Steward Skills Training class

The class is good for both the beginner who has a few invasives in their yard as well as experienced stewards looking to broaden their knowledge base.

The class will focus more on invasive species removal education and conversation than typical restoration workdays. Participants will learn the fundamentals of identifying and managing woody invasives. Participants will gain practical field experience in effective techniques; both with and without herbicide. The on-site training will have 3 parts; 90 minutes for discussion, 30 minutes for hands on experience and an optional 60 minutes to help restore the ecology in the nature area.
